This design is derived from part of a painted design on a pottery vessel that was archaeologically recovered in 1929 by Beloit College's Logan Museum of Anthropology. Now used as the logo for the Museum, this image exemplifies a combination of naturalistic and stylized imagery often found in the Mimbres tradition of the Southwest. This particular image was painted on a Mimbres black-on-white bowl originally published in Paul Nesbitt's The Ancient Mimbreños.
