LabyrinthThis is a miniature version of the labyrinth inlaid in the floor of Chartres Cathedral, France which dates from 1205. Although this design is commonly known as the "Chartres" labyrinth, similar designs date from as early as the ninth century, some in non-Christian contexts. One commonly understood meaning of this version of the labyrinth is that of a symbolic pilgrimage for those who could not undertake a "real" pilgrimage to Jerusalem and the holy land.
