Persian Lions1 1/2" x 1 1/8" These lions rampant are derived from a sigil, or seal, used by Archaemenid rulers in the early fifth century B.C. The left turning "tetraskeles" (swastika) of course predates the right turning swastika of recent Nazi symbolism and is widespread throughout Asia. The symbol between the two lions is believed to represent a flower.
